District Commissioner
I started my Guiding life as a teenager with the 1st Coalville
Guides after my friend persuaded me to join. Shortly after I was enrolled
I was promoted to Patrol Leader and told I would be a good guide. I left
Guides at 13½ and joined Rangers (due to the closure of the Guide
Unit). I stayed in Rangers for only a short period and left the movement.
I rejoined as an Adult Leader at 18 when I took my old guide uniform to
a new unit that had started in my local church. I've been an Assistant
Guide Guider there since 1982. I was later asked to open a Brownie Pack
at the church, which I started in 1984. I joined the Service Team for
an International Scout Camp Site in Oxfordshire after a Guide camp there
in 1995, where I have gained a number of Leadership Qualifications for
various activities.
I met my husband, a Scouter, whilst on the team and we married in 1997.
I moved into Markfield after we married. I was approached during the summer
of 2000 to see if I would consider taking on the role of District Commissioner
for Markfield and I agreed.
Outside of Guiding I enjoy Church Fellowship, being a member of the church
choir (when I can get - which isn't that often) at the local church. I'm
also an active member of a local Amateur Radio group that provides safety
communications for various local events.
I hope to bring the fellowship of Guiding within the District
together and to increase the number of units/sections over the years.
To do this I need your help and support. This is why I have created this
Web Site to advertise the District and to show what we are doing.
District Assistant
Previously I was the Rainbow Guider at 1st Ratby Rainbows,
but decided to take a break from running a unit but still wished to continue
within GirlGuiding UK.
